Draw Day! Watch live at 16:00 CEST

The big day has finall arrived where the 32 teams that will compete in the 2017-18 Champions Hockey League season will be drawn into eight groups of four.

COLOGNE – The CHL Group Stage Draw takes place today, starting at 16:00 CEST, at Lanxess Arena in Cologne and will be presented by Marc Hindelang, a well-known German sports commentator. Guests at the show, which will be broadcast live on the CHL website and its official Facebook page, are Sean Simpson, head coach of Adler Mannheim (GER) and Kari Jalonen, head coach of SC Bern (SUI), as well as Anders Ternbom, chairman of the CHL, and Martin Baumann, CEO of the CHL.

CHL ranking tool criteria: A) CHL champion, B) National league champion, C) Regular season 1st place, D) Regular season 2nd place, E) Losing playoff finalist, F) Higher-seeded losing semi-finalist, G) Lower-seeded losing semi-finalist, H) Regular season 3rd place, I) Regular season 4th place, J) Regular season 5th place.

Draw Rules

  • There will be four pots with 8 teams each.
  • Pot 1: Teams ranked 1-8 | Pot 2: Teams ranked 9-16 | Pot 3: Teams ranked 17-24 | Pot 4: Teams ranked 25-32; the CHL ranking tool applies.
  • The Draw will provide 8 groups of four teams each.
  • Clubs from the same league cannot be drawn into the same group
  • Teams from Pot 4 will be drawn first and then allocated to Groups A-H, before teams from Pot 3, Pot 2 and Pot 1.
  • Software will help us detect any potential conflict. Should such a conflict occur then the software will determine the next possible group available. The club in question will then be placed into this available group.
