League History

The Danish Top League, run by the Danish Ice Hockey Association, will be known as ”Metal Ligaen” for the next three seasons. Attendance has been on the constant rise with a 2013–14 season average of around 1,700. While historically dominated by Copenhagen Team KSF, the power houses of newer Danish hockey are Herning (now Blue Fox Herning) and Vojens (now SoenderjyskE Vojens) who have shared the last 10 Danish championships, each winning 5. Blue Fox Herning and Rodovre Mighty Bulls are the major supplies of Danish talent to the NHL, with Herning having sent 4 players across the pond and Rodovre coming in a close second with 3 players. The dominance of both Herning and SonderjyskE is toughly contested by both Bulldogs Odense and Frederikshavn White Hawks, who are in the process of strengthening their rosters. Best spectator numbers are seen in SE Arena, Vojens and Gigantium, Aalborg with both arenas pulling around 3,000 in average attendance.
