About the club

Skelleftea AIK was founded in 1921, but only started competing in the local league Skellefteserien in 1943. Twelve years later they qualified for the highest league in Sweden, where they succeeded in manifesting their presence over a substantial period. In 1975 the Swedish Elite League was named Elitserien and the club became champion three years later in 1978. In the '90s the club played in the Swedish Second League, but made it back to the Elitserien in 2006-07, where it has been holding its stance ever since. Skelleftea AIK have won the Swedish championship three times so far (1978, 2013, 2014). In 2015 and 2016 they finished first in the regular season and almost won the title again, but lost in the finals both years.
