About the club

A 20-year wait for a domestic regular season win was ended in 2017 as the Cardiff Devils clinched the British Elite League title. With the Challenge Cup already in the bag, the Devils almost completed a clean sweep of silverware before ultimately losing the Play-Off final against Sheffield. The Devils were founded in 1986, working their way up from the British Second Division all the way through to the old Heineken League. They won the first regular season title of the Superleague era in 1997, and the play-offs two years later before the drought began to set in. Since the formation of the Elite League, the Devils were beaten finalists four times before eventually lifting the regular season trophy this year. The team's original rink, the Wales National Ice Arena, was their home until 2006 when it was demolished. The Devils played from then on in a 'temporary' rink in Cardiff Bay up until February 2016. In March 2016, they moved into the brand new Ice Arena Wales (Canolfan Iâ Cymru), which seats 3,088 spectators. Unusually for ice rinks in the UK it has two ice-pads, meaning that public skating can continue while hockey matches are played.
